Greenfield Retirement Home Recognized as Centennial Business

PRINCETON — Greenfield Retirement Home in Princeton, established in 1911 as the Adeline E. Prouty Ladies Home, was recognized and honored by the Illinois State Historical Society (ISHS) recently as one of 23 centennial businesses established 100 or more years ago and still conducting business in Illinois.

“It is an honor and a privilege to recognize and celebrate the achievement of these 23 Illinois businesses and organizations that have achieved the centennial milestone,” said ISHS executive director William Furry. “Fewer than 10% of all Illinois corporations survive 100 years, and those that do have done so with great sacrifice. They have persevered economic downturns, recessions, personal losses, changes in the industry and the march of time. Their resilience, and not a little luck, made all the difference. To each of them we extend our best wishes for the next 100 years.”

Greenfield Retirement Home, located at 508 Park Ave. East, was established on Dec. 1, 1911, and has operated at the same location, with several expansions. The home, funded by the Prouty Trust, began with four residents, and expanded in 1917. In 1948, the trust opened a home exclusively for male residents at another facility. The two homes merged on April 19, 1977, under the new name Greenfield Home, adding a 25-room complex to serve its population of aging citizens.

The facility includes 24-hour residential care, a fully-licensed nursing staff and residential aids, and enjoys “Preferred Provider” status from ParentCare Solutions, a nationwide not-for-profit eldercare referral service.

The ISHS’s Centennial Business Award Program was established in 1984 to recognize Illinois’ rich industrial heritage, and to honor those corporations founded in Illinois that have endured a century or more. Greenfield is one of only 23 centennial businesses in Illinois to receive honor.
